While most moms-to-be spend their last trimester pouring through endless piles of baby books, anxiously awaiting their “big day,” Bonnie Marcus set out to launch her own stationery company.
As a wedding planner in New York City and the Special Event Coordinator at the prestigious 92nd Street Y in Manhattan, Bonnie was very familiar with the wedding industry and always thought that something was “lacking” in the invitation market. For years she was on the lookout for fresh, contemporary designs that reflected the fashion-forward metropolitan lifestyle of her clients. Since most of the product available at retail was very traditional, Bonnie frequently custom designed invitations to bring the vision of her customers to life.
Toward the end of her pregnancy, Bonnie stopped commuting to Manhattan and eagerly launched Bonnie Marcus Collection, “where fashion meets paper” from her dining room table in Westport, Connecticut. Having also worked for a number of years in the fashion industry for top designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Bonnie decided to make her dream of chic, stylish stationery a reality.
Bonnie started by launching a wedding invitation line, Down the Aisle in Style, and a holiday card line, Holiday Style. Each design was hand-sparkled using the most precise instruments she could find – her husband’s office tools (he’s a dentist). An editor from Modern Bride received an invitation and called Bonnie to say “your designs are a reason for a girl to want to get married!”
When Bonnie was seven months pregnant, her chic new line of holiday greetings was featured in New York Magazine as a “Best Bet” and the excitement has not stopped since! Ten years, three boys, and over 3,000 designs later, Bonnie’s award-winning collection is sold in over 10,000 retail stores around the world. In addition to the wedding and holiday designs, the line has expanded to more than 10 collections including, appropriately, an innovative line of invitations and note cards for moms-to-be, Expecting in Style ®. Other exciting projects beyond the world of paper are also in the works.
Bonnie has been recognized as a pioneer for women in business. She won the prestigious American Express “Make Mine a $Million Business” contest for women entrepreneurs. She has served as the small business spokesperson for Bank of America as well.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of all products are donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and other organizations promoting breast cancer awareness.
Bytech is proud to work together with Bonnie Marcus in creating fashionable, socially-responsible products.
